Word of the Week: Reset - part 1
Word of the Week: RESET- part 1
This week my word is RESET.
This week we will look at RESET as a personal experience, resetting the mind and defining reset in a different way. Next week we will look at ideas and tips for resetting in Parenting.
Why RESET?
Not because everything has fallen apart.
Not because there has been failure.
But because sometimes growth requires a pause — not a push.
We live in a world that celebrates “keep going,” “push through,” and “don’t give up.”
And while perseverance is important, so is wisdom.
Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is stop… and reset.
A reset is not quitting.
It is not weakness.
It is not starting from zero.
A reset is starting from experience.
It is taking what didn’t work, what felt heavy, what drained you — and choosing differently.
Resetting Your Energy
There are days when we realise, we are tired in a way that sleep cannot fix.
That is usually the sign that something needs adjusting.
A reset might look like:
Saying no instead of yes.
Turning off the noise.
Going to bed earlier.
Stepping outside for five quiet minutes.
Letting something be “good enough” instead of perfect.
A reset does not have to be dramatic.
Often it is one small decision that shifts the direction of the day.
Resetting Your Mind
Perhaps the most important reset happens internally.
Reset your self-talk.
Reset from “I’m failing” to “I’m learning.”
Reset from “Why is this happening?” to “What is this teaching me?”
Reset your expectations from perfection to progress.
We are not machines.
We are human beings navigating growth in real time.
And humans need resets.
A Gentle Definition
Reset (noun):
A conscious decision to begin again without shame.
There is no embarrassment in needing to begin again.
There is strength in recognising when it is time.
This week, instead of pushing harder, perhaps ask yourself:
Where do I need a reset?
Not because I have failed —
But because I am wise enough to pause.
Growth is not always forward motion.
Sometimes it is a small step back, a deep breath, and a calmer start.
And that is not weakness.
That is maturity.
That is strength.
That is RESET.
