OBSERVE -WORD OF THE WEEK

WORD OF THE WEEK – OBSERVE

There is something quietly powerful about the word observe.
It asks nothing of us—no fixing, no rushing, no reacting.
Just… notice.

And yet, in a world that constantly demands our attention, our opinions, and our immediate responses, simply observing can feel surprisingly difficult.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

How often do we truly observe our lives?

Not analyse.
Not judge.
Not overthink.

Just observe.

I’ve noticed how quickly I move through moments. A conversation, a task, even a quiet cup of tea—my mind already halfway into the next thing. Planning, worrying, replaying. It’s almost as if I’m present in body, but slightly absent in experience.

But observation invites something different.

It invites stillness.

When I pause and observe, I notice the small things—the way light falls through a window, the tone in someone’s voice, the subtle shift in my own emotions. I become aware of what is happening within me, not just around me.

And that awareness is powerful.

Because when I observe my thoughts, I create a little space between myself and them.
I realise: I am not every thought that passes through my mind.

When I observe my reactions, I begin to understand them.
Why did that frustrate me?
Why did that bring me joy?

There’s no judgement—just curiosity.

Observation softens everything.

It turns criticism into understanding.
It turns impatience into presence.
It turns chaos into clarity.

I’m also learning that observing others—with kindness and without assumption—changes the way I connect. Instead of jumping to conclusions, I pause. I notice. I listen more deeply.

And in that space, there is more compassion.

Perhaps that’s what makes this word so special.

Observe is not passive—it is deeply intentional.

It is choosing to be present in your own life.
It is allowing yourself to see clearly before reacting.
It is giving yourself permission to slow down.

This week, I am gently reminding myself:

Not everything needs an immediate response.
Not every thought needs to be believed.
Not every moment needs to be rushed through.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do… is simply observe.
