GOAL

WORD OF THE WEEK – Goal

Last week we explored the word observe. This week we turn our attention to a word that gives our observations direction and purpose: goal.

Goals give our lives a sense of movement. They gently shift us from thinking about what we want to moving toward what matters.

Why goals matter

I have found that goals bring focus and motivation to everyday life. Each month, I set three categories of goals in my journal:

Goals give our lives a sense of movement.

They gently shift us from thinking about hat we want to moving forward what matters.

  • Work or business goals

  • Personal goals

  • Family goals

This simple structure keeps my life balanced and intentional.

My work goals help me plan in ways that serve the needs of my community and improve what I do. At the heart of these goals is one guiding intention: to make a difference in people’s lives.

My personal goals are the fuel that supports everything else. When I care for myself, I show up better for work and family. These goals usually include mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.

I plan my exercise and nutrition for the month. I intentionally make space to explore new ideas and read material that stretches my thinking and supports my journey of lifelong learning. Emotional and spiritual growth are equally important, so meditation, prayer, and spiritual reading form part of my daily rhythm.

From monthly goals to weekly wins

Each week, I break my monthly goals into smaller, achievable steps. These weekly wins guide my days and give me a clear sense of direction.

But goals are not rigid rules carved in stone. Life shifts and surprises us, so flexibility is essential. Adjusting goals is not failure — it is wisdom.

Celebrating the small wins

One of the most powerful habits I’ve developed is celebrating progress, no matter how small.

At the end of each day, I replay the day in my mind and look for the wins. At the end of the week, I have a dedicated section in my journal titled Wins of the Week, where I record them.

This simple practice builds motivation, gratitude, and a sense of growth. Small wins, collected over time, create meaningful change.

Final thought

A goal is a dream with direction. ✨
