WORD OF THE WEEK – ACTIVE
WORD OF THE WEEK – ACTIVE
"Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned." — Peter Marshall
The word "Active" makes me think of living a fulfilling life. A fulfilling life does not just happen—it is built through intentional choices and active participation. We each have the opportunity to engage with life rather than simply letting it pass us by.
Theme: Living life with purpose, energy, and intention
When we think about the word active, we often associate it with keeping physically fit. While physical activity is certainly important, I believe being active is about so much more. It is about choosing to engage with life rather than simply watching it unfold. An active person doesn't wait for the perfect moment—they take small, meaningful steps that move them forward.
Activity can take many forms. It may mean taking a walk, learning a new skill, helping a neighbour, tackling a task you've been avoiding, or spending quality time with someone you love. Every positive action, no matter how small, creates momentum.
We all easily fall into the habit of procrastinating. We tell ourselves we'll start tomorrow, next week, or when life becomes less busy. Yet tomorrow often looks remarkably like today. The secret is not waiting for motivation to appear—it is taking action first. Action often creates the motivation we were waiting for.
Another important benefit of being active is keeping our minds engaged. Reading, solving puzzles, learning, creating, or simply remaining curious helps us continue growing throughout life. Just as our bodies become stronger through movement, our minds become sharper through activity.
Being active in our relationships is equally important. A phone call, a thoughtful message, a listening ear, or sharing a cup of coffee can strengthen friendships and remind people they matter. Relationships flourish when we actively invest in them.
An active life does not require constant busyness. In fact, rest is an essential part of being active because it restores us for the next step. The goal is not to fill every minute but to live intentionally, making choices that support our health, happiness, relationships, and personal growth.
Tips to Consider
Choose action over procrastination.
Keep your body moving every day.
Keep your mind active by learning something new.
Be fully present with family and friends.
Take small steps—consistent action produces lasting results.
Remember that rest is an essential part of an active, balanced life.
Reflection
"An active life isn't measured by how busy we are, but by how intentionally we choose to engage with the opportunities each day brings."
This week, ask yourself:
"What small action can I take today that my future self will thank me for?"
Remember, life isn't defined by the plans we make, but by the actions we take. Every journey, every achievement, and every positive change begins with one active step.
Make this your week to get active—in your body, your mind, your relationships, and your purpose. Small, consistent actions today can create a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling tomorrow. Living your best life begins with simply choosing to take the next step.
"Until next time, keep learning, keep growing, and keep living your best life."
