Habits-1- What is a habit?
Word of the Week: Habits-1- What is a habit?
Small actions. Repeated often. Big results.
Our word of the week is habits.
What is a habit? A habit is something we do regularly, often without even thinking about it. It might be something as simple as making our bed, checking our phone when we wake up, having a cup of coffee in the morning, or saying “I can't do this” when something feels difficult.
Habits are small actions that we repeat consistently—and over time, they shape our lives.
We often imagine that our lives are changed by big decisions, dramatic moments or major achievements. But perhaps it is the little things we do every day that have the greatest influence.
We become what we repeatedly do.
The good news is that habits can be changed. We don't have to transform everything at once. Sometimes the most powerful changes begin with something very small.
Key thought
Our lives are often shaped less by the big decisions we make occasionally and more by the small things we do repeatedly.
A habit can quietly move us towards the person we want to become—or quietly keep us stuck where we are.
So perhaps this week we should ask ourselves:
What am I doing repeatedly that is helping me?
What am I doing repeatedly that is holding me back?
And what small habit could I change?
Here are seven areas of habits worth thinking about: habits of thought, habits of action, habits of learning, habits of kindness, habits of health, habits of connection and habits of gratitude.
Over the next few weeks we will look at these seven areas of habits.
